"Our names are David and Nonie Vonnegut-Gabovitch, both life-long Hoosiers!

In 2010, we opened an ice cream store, BRICS (Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station) in Broad Ripple on the Monon Trail.  Our concept was simple – to offer great tasting but affordable ice cream in a fun setting while staying true and committed to our love of the environment. From landscaping with native plants, using glassware for in-store dining and employing the use of dual flush toilets and a water bottle filling station, to utilizing only compostable or recyclable to-go items and serving samples of our ice cream using metal vs. plastic tasting spoons we are dedicated to doing our environmental duty.  All these efforts are not inexpensive but are part of our mission.

Becoming carbon neutral allows us to take responsibility for those aspects of our business that tax the environment. For example, the extra electricity needed to run our freezers and dishwasher as well as greenhouse gas emissions stemming from our employees’ transportation are excesses we wish to compensate for.  As “green” business owners, we want to do all we can to be good stewards of this one amazing planet we are occupying. We care about what we leave for our children, grandchildren and the world as a whole."
